Why We're Here

True Heroism

Heroism
I once heard that a hero is somebody who will go to any lengths to save a single person.

This is currently my favorite definition of heroism. It's not about numbers, or pride, or anything simple and unemotional. It's visceral and heartfelt.

I can relate to this definition. Sometimes it was with the wrong motivations, but for years, I had a friend for whom I'd do absolutely anything to save. Now, that circle of people has expanded to lots more of my friends -- and my ultimate goal is to make every single person I meet the one soul I'd "go to any lengths to save." I want to be a true hero. A true hero doesn't care who the person they're saving is, only that they were in danger and needed help. A true hero doesn't see it as heroism, but as a moral obligation to do everything in their power to help somebody else.

That makes Jesus the greatest hero of all time, because He did that for each individual child of God when He went through the atonement. What better aspiration is there than to save people? That's one of the reasons I follow Christ, the ultimate hero.
