Countdown Day 28: How You Grow
"... And how you grow is up to you."
Individuals have predispositions, affinities, quirks, and a million other things that make you unique. Some of these things are biological, some are familial upbringing, some are cultural, and others still are ethnical.
The point is, there's a million things that are "part of the package." We possess many factors that affect how we think and act, and they can be debilitating or can aid.
Some people argue that we don't really have free will. That all of our actions and thoughts are the results of nature and nurturing.
I disagree. We are more than the sum of our parts. We can evolve beyond our childhood, travel from our origin. We have a soul! We have agency! We can effect change in ourself! How we grow up -- how we react to our circumstances -- is up to us.
Some things may seem to be beyond our ability to alter. When we come up against these Jericho walls of development, there is a force we must rely on if we are to topple them. That force is the ark-bearing power of the atonement. With the atonement, we can change anything about ourselves, if we hold to our faith in Christ. God created us; he certainly understands us. If so, then he certainly knows how to change us.
We have the choice. We choose how we act. We choose how we grow. Ultimately, we choose if we partake of the atonement. I want to always make the best choices... So I will strive to always rely on the atonement of Christ.
