Why We're Here

Countdown Day 29: A New Perspective

Countdown Day 27: A New Perspective

Why do we enjoy retellings of stories? Why don't we read or watch the same masterpiece over and over and over again without getting bored? Can't we just enjoy all the nuances?

We can, but once we've appreciated every detail, we'll grow bored of it. That's why we like to constantly tweak stories, and why two things are never the same. We enjoy viewing things through different perspectives. We like tilting the looking glass, or throwing a dash of color in the painting. We like changes and evolutions. That's why we keep telling stories.

I'd like to apply this concept to people. There is are different people who are constantly changing so that we can interact with each other and learn to love things more, or begin to appreciate things. People will find different things to like about the same story. They'll have their own interpretations of events, and their own favorites, for varying reasons. A story can be, and should be, a very personal thing. When we interact with each other, we learn to appreciate those old tales for different reasons. The uniqueness of humanity enriches life.
