Why We're Here

Stalling

Just a few thoughts.

"Why would you bring me in
If you knew what you'd become"

Soooo this line has meaning to me. Why, why, just why, would You lead someone along if You knew it wouldn't work? Don't do that. It's also a sort of.... "why, just why?" line. I dunno. I just like it.

"I had a rosy dream,
You gave up on You,
and I gave up on me, well,
Love came along and said leave them be"

I like this section. It works better when people move on beyond themselves. Most of life is no fun if You can't stop being selfish, if You don't look beyond Yourself.

"We were wrecked...
I'm singing to empty bottles everywhere, everywhere..."

Obviously, things didn't go so well when they weren't the only people in their worlds (being wrecked, alone.).
P.S. this bit next is my favorite part of the song.

"She counts on stars, astrology
My moods are mercurial,
But I'm no mercury!
Don't hold your breath
Baptized in the river of youth,
Hold on death, the moon
The stars, a sliver of you"

Astrology = superstition, a belief in destiny, fate, whatever. Believing that the movement of heavenly bodies can control events in your life... is what 'she' believes in.
'He' is mercurial, which is, coincidentally, one of my favorite words right now. Mercurial:
  • lively and unpredictable: lively, witty, fast-talking, and likely to do the unexpected.

  • That's one of the many definitions out there right now. I really do like the description though. But, he's no Mercury (the God of Wisdom.)
Holding your breath is often tantamount to waiting, so don't wait, go now.
Death should wait, night should wait, this moment, this day, should go on forever.
And you, you're just like a star.
And of course, there's the chorus that i'm ignoring right now.
